Writer's Block: And the Oscar Goes To

Dark Knight. With it's comic-book metaphor for the war on terror and deep exploration of it's characters, I think it was the standout film of 2008.
hmmm......

My step-father has massive tumors throughout lower torso, stomach, colon, esophagus, etc... They are malignant and believed to be lymphatic (biopsy is apparently taking longer than normal). The surgeon, last week, removed most of it but not all. It does not look good. Other than a weak, general concern for what my mother is facing, I have a hard time mustering any feelings. I don't dislike Hugh. I've actually come to think quite well of him.

I sometimes wonder if I am just too apathetic. My apathy is a defense learned early, around the time my father left. If I don't care, nothing can hurt me. It's robbed me of ambition. Now I see it's also killing my emotional attachments.

Another thought or two

regarding Obamethics from my earlier post: Ethics also = exceptions to the "strictest" rules (from Slate: "An Obama executive order bans lobbyists from working in jobs related to their work for their former employers. William Lynn, slated to be deputy defense secretary, was recently a lobbyist for Raytheon, a major defense contractor. Gibbs was unfazed. He said there needed to be exceptions to this new rule, and that Obama's rules amounted to the toughest ethical standards in history.") Got it. His ethical rules are the toughest for other people, but come on, He is the Messiah. He's infallible. It'll be okay. Trust Him.

Interesting tidbit: Executive orders within first 3 days by Presidents who started the job in my lifetime:

Ford: 0 (1st after 5 days - regarding export controls)
Carter: 1 (on 1/21 he pardoned all the draft dodgers)
Reagan: 0 (1st on the 28th of Jan. - deregulated oil prices)
Bush: 0 (1st on the 25th - established Fed Commission of Ethics Law Reform)
Clinton: 1 (requiring an Ethics pledge from his cabinet.)
Bush: 0 (on the 29th - regarding faith-based community initiatives)
Obama: 5 (2 on the 21st - the lets try GWB for war crimes EO and the I demand Ethics from everyone except those I deem are above ethics EO; 3 on the 22nd - close gitmo, waterboarding bad, and now what the fuck do we do with all these terrorists?)

Totalitarianism (from Wikipedia -not the most reliable source, but I like the gist - my comments in parentheses): Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology (hope, change, yes we can) and propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media (Matthews: I got a tingle up my leg; Brokaw - Take that, rednecks; Stefanopolous reportedly crying at the inauguration; Larry King - my son wants to be black, black is "in"), a single party that controls the state (what few conservatives we have left in the halls of power are painfully quiet), personality cults (oh come on, HE'S THE MESSIAH), control over the economy (thanks for getting the ball rolling George), regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism (probably won't even bother with the "fairness doctrine" and just shoehorn in some restrictive legislation in the stimulus bill), the use of mass surveillance (an executive order-happy president could easily turn the patriot act inward), and widespread use of terror tactics (I guess we'll see what happens with His state-funded Black Panthers and with the Weathermen running the education system).

My thoughts so far....

As of day 2

Hope= "This will get worse..." "...could last years." "Stimulus will not create jobs before 2010."

Change= Clinton's people in the cabinet, FDR's failed policies expanded for the 21st Century, a reversal to pre-9/11/01 intelligence gathering and treatment of terrorists. "Ooh ooh, I'm just like Lincoln. No I'm FDR. Ooh, even better, JFK. Oh, no no no, I'm Reagan." (which is even more disconcerting considering the election is over and he still can't decide who the press should compare him to.)

Bringing ethics back to government= a tax cheater for Sec of Treasury, a Secretary of State bought and paid for by the Chinese, Saudis, and Koreans.

Uniting the nation: "Let Whites do right."

Uniting the world: well since SoState is a puppet of several regimes, this may work.....

Strong leader: who has to have his AG tell him what he's signing. I hope the AG's hands were warm, cause he was working that Obama-shaped puppet.

Hmmm. Definitely off to a start.....

Punisher: WarZone

THIS is the Punisher I wanted Thomas Jane to be. Thanks to Lexi Alexander and Ray Stephenson for giving me a Frank Castle who didn't go around making mobsters think their wives were cheating and henchmen had betrayed them. This is the Frank that walks into a room and fires shotguns pointblank into the faces of the bad guys. This Frank does not fuck around trying to get the bad guys to kill their loved ones and advisers. Guns don't kill people. Frank does.

It's far from a perfect movie and it's starkly apparent just how much the Punisher and his world was/is influenced by that of Batman (especially in light of The Dark Knight, a vastly superior film) but it is very fun and very violent, somewhat cartoonish (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't ). There are some genuinely good moments with real heart (Frank in the cemetery) and some almost good moments that get lost in translation (Frank in the church). The gore, largely cgi enhanced, is somewhat distracting (as much as it was in the latest Rambo movie). But I'm just glad someone got the Punisher, as a character, right. Stephenson is great as Frank and is a living embodiment of the Tim Bradstreet vision of the character. I'm going to have to go back and re-read all the Garth Ennis books from the beginning, now.

My geek is up

I swapped my PS3's 40G hdd for a Samsung 500G hdd and am in the process of moving all my music and video over to the new drive. I am very entertained by my own excitement. Though I am not a envirofascist, I do believe in the old adage, "waste not, want not" and have thus purchased a 2.5" SATA hdd portable casing and am now using the original PS3 drive as a nifty, 40g FAT32 external backup.

There are plenty of places giving this information, but I figured I'd throw in my experience as I ran into an issue hardly anyone else bothered to report:

Step 1: make a backup of your important settings, data and savegames. Use a flash drive or external USB hdd or whatever. External and flash drives must be in FAT32 file format for the PS3 to recognize them. If you have an external drive larger than 30G you might want to Google "Swissknife format" and download the handy-dandy and, more importantly, FREE SwissKnife formatting utility. Windows XP and Vista will not format drives over 32G in FAT32. (I will warn, I had trouble with Swissknife on my Vista laptop but it ran fine on my XP desktop.)

Just plug your drive into one of the USB ports, navigate to the Settings menu and scroll down to Backup Utility. Keep in mind the more crap on your PS3, the bigger the drive needs to be. I had to delete quite a bit of stuff, including some downloads (which was okay, since all I had to do as re-download once the new drive was installed). If you have enough room on the drive, you might want to travel over to Sony's PS3 website and download the latest update file (do this ESPECIALLY if you are installing a drive 320G or higher). It doesn't have to be on the same drive as your backup, but there's nothing says it can't be. The file is PS3UPDAT.PUP and must be located in "[drive]:\PS3\UPDATE" for the PS3 to access (took me forever to discover that little tidbit of knowledge - only one guy on all the net was apparently sharing that one). If you are using the same drive you used for the backup, then you already have the "PS3" directory, just create a new folder there, name it UPDATE, save/move/copy the update file into the folder and you are golden.

Step 2: Now that you're all backed up and have your update file ready to go, you have to physically swap the drives. This is so simple even a congressman can get it done. These directions are all over the net and in the PS3's documentation if you bothered to read it, so I'll just hit the highlights.

The left-hand side of the PS3 has a removable panel. Remove it. Inside you'll see a metal housing and a blue screw. Remove screw. CAREFULY. It's a phillips-head, small, very tight and easily stripped. Get a good screwdriver that fits and go slowly. Wow, that was just rife with innuendo potential wasn't it. Sorry about that.

With the blue screw removed a sliding clip will pull out the housing "tray" that the hdd rests on. The screws fastening the hdd to the housing are also tight, but a bit larger and easier to manage, but easily stripped as well, so you still should be careful.

Replace the OEM drive with your new 2.5" SATA hdd of very large size. Must be SATA, must be 2.5" (a laptop hard drive). Follow the directions in reverse and reconnect your PS3 to you TV, plug it in, flip the switch and turn it on.

Step 3: If you have a very large hard drive, the PS3 may not recognize the new drive immediately (most of what I found on the net said the PS3 immediately recognized the new drive and asked to format it straight away, but alas mine wigged out and gave me the following (and I paraphrase):

"Dumbass, plug in your controller with the USB cable and hit the PS button. Schmuck!"

I did as instructed and then the PS3 said something to the effect of, "Hey douchebag, what the hell's this? I can't start like this. What the fuck did you do to me? Prick. Look, you're going to have to plug in some kind of storage media with the latest update and hold down the Start and Select buttons. Ass." I really am starting to think my PS3 just tolerates me. Maybe it's jealous of the 360. I do have more games for the 360.... anyway

I plugged my flash drive into the USB drive and got no love from the PS3 until I hunted the internet a bit more and found the info about the PS3/UPDATE file path. When I finally got that sorted out (using my handy-dandy laptop), plugged the flash drive back into the PS3 and pressed the Start and Select buttons, I received the following words of encouragement: "About damn time ass-wipe. Formatting drive, dickwad."

The PS3 proceeded to take me through a bunch of setup stuff again (date & time, network settings, etc). If you used the Backup Utility, just skip what you can and get to the point where you can get back to navigation bar, go to settings/backup utility/restore backup, plug in the storage media used to back up your data and hit X. The drive will format again and then the restore will install and all your previous crap will be available (network settings and all).

Nifty eh? If you don't have a PS3, I cannot recommend it enough. Despite the paltry selection of games (Uncharted is great, and I've heard great things about MGS4 and Little Big Planet, but everything else interesting is available for the 360 and I do tend to lean toward the 360 for gaming - I'm addicted to Achievements, what can I say?) the PS3 has great gaming potential, connectivity to the PSP, a new social community "game" like Second Life called Playstation Home (coming soon) and is a blu-ray player. Get the cheapest one available, buy a new hard drive and you're all set.

Oh my, I may need to get HBO again....

Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (perhaps the best fantasy series of the last 50 years, if not ever) is being optioned for a pilot for HBO.

It's definitely got my geek up. And since it's up, I'm going to work it:

Casting thoughts

Jaime Lannister - Luke Goss: his performance as Prince Nuada showed his grace and power. I think he'd be perfect.
Cersei Lannister - Anna Walton: iffy since she already played the sister of Luke Goss, but doesn't change the fact that she looks the part of Cersei.
Ned Stark - Gerard Butler: Not as long-faced as Ned, but definitely has the presence.
Tyrion Lannister - Peter Dinklage: definitely can pull off the whole harshly sardonic wit. I really hope they go with Dinklage for Tyrion.

An agenda of change

A guy I work with, a friend and Obama supporter told me I should give the man a chance to see what he's going to do. Well, Obama has posted his administration's agenda for his first term in office at Change.gov. I do not hold much hope that Obama's "change" will be good for America, but I wanted to take a look and decide for myself. Here's what I found (behind a very long cut):

Civil Rights

"Obama and Biden will strengthen federal hate crimes legislation, expand hate crimes protection by passing the Matthew Shepard Act, and reinvigorate enforcement at the Department of Justice's Criminal Section."

Violent crimes, for any reason, are deplorable and must not be tolerated, but I have been adamantly against "Hate Crime" legislation, as it criminalizes intent. It is what Orwell called "thought crime." Crime is crime. Hate is for philosophers. The men who beat Matthew Sheppard to death committed murder. The why only establishes motive for a jury to connect the actual crime to those who committed it. The fact that they disliked him because he was homosexual does not make it any more or less heinous.

His other plans regarding "Fair wages," etc. give me pause (any time the government talks of "fair" I have to wonder), but I don't have enough information on what those plans actually mean, so I'll not condemn or praise until I know.

"Obama will sign into law his legislation that establishes harsh penalties for those who have engaged in voter fraud and provides voters who have been misinformed with accurate and full information so they can vote."

Does this include returning all the money from ACORN and prosecuting them for the fraud they perpetrated in order to get him elected? Does this also include informing those voters fully about him, his ideology, the sources of campaign contributions, and associations. That information had been noticeably absent in the press throughout the campaign and is only now starting to surface after the election.

Defense

"Obama and Biden believe that we must build up our special operations forces, civil affairs, information operations, and other units and capabilities that remain in chronic short supply; invest in foreign language training, cultural awareness, and human intelligence and other needed counterinsurgency and stabilization skill sets; and create a more robust capacity to train, equip, and advise foreign security forces, so that local allies are better prepared to confront mutual threats."

Got it. The Army: Community Organizers with Guns. The military has but two purposes. Kill people and destroy things. That's pretty much it. Not pretty, but fundamentally true nonetheless. Leave the community outreach to the UN. Not our fighting men and women.

"Barack Obama and Joe Biden will restore the ethic of public service to the agenda of today's youth, whether it be serving their local communities in such roles as teachers or first responders, or serving in the military to keep our nation free and safe."

Lofty goal. How?

"An Obama-Biden administration will set a goal of creating a national CAC of 25,000 personnel. This corps of civilian volunteers with special skill, sets (doctors, lawyers, engineers, city planners, agriculture specialists, police, etc.) would be organized to provide each federal agency with a pool of volunteer experts willing to deploy in times of need at home and abroad."

In a speech on July 2, Obama said: "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Of all his proposed plans, I believe it's this one, coupled with his deification by his supporters and the press, that worries the ever living shit out of me. This is like something right out of Totalitarianism 101. God, I hope I am wrong and making a mountain out of a molehill.

One thing I'll note is missing from his "Defense" agenda is his talk of disarming our nuclear capability. With Iran trying wear daddy-pants, and Putin making another power grab in Russia, threatening the reinstatement of the KGB and thus instigating a new cold war, we could be fairly well screwed. But I don't want to be a negative-nelly.

Economy

"Tax Cuts for Wealthy Instead of Middle Class: The Bush tax cuts give those who earn over $1 million dollars a tax cut nearly 160 times greater than that received by middle-income Americans."

Okay I have to say something here: If I'd been making 32k/year when Clinton left office, my tax burden would have been over $8000. Under Bush I've actually brought in around 32 the last few years (2 jobs) and have paid 11-12% (@ $3300-3500). I am not wealthy, Mr. Obama. Rescinding Bush's tax cuts will hurt me. Maybe this was the "sacrifice" you mentioned in your acceptance speach.

Also, the top 10% of wage earners, according to IRS figures, pay 70% of all taxes

Here are the figures from the IRS for 2005 (the latest year reporting. The report linked goes back to '86 and you get the gist of how it trends.) The first cell below is total income tax collected in millions ($943,703,000).

<col width="125" span="6" style="width: 94pt;" />

Total

Top

Top

Top

Top

Top

1 percent

5 percent

10 percent

25 percent

50 percent

<col width="125" span="6" style="width: 94pt;" />

934,703

368,132

557,759

657,085

803,772

906,028

39%

60%

70%

86%

97%

That leaves the bottom 50% of wage earners barely shouldering 3% of the burden. Who's needing tax cuts? I remember hearing the statement that the top 1% rule America. I say, why not? They're paying nearly 40% of the load. Looks to me that the middle class (25-50% of top wage earners) are paying 11%, what is that, just under 103 million? Wow. That middle class has been RAPED by George Bush.

"Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief."

Okay 1) "windfall" profits are profits made without producing anything to earn them. The oil companies do not make "windfall" profits. They have a product. They sell it.

2) Corporations do not pay taxes. Period. Let me state this again. Companies do not pay any taxes. We pay taxes. When government decides to go after Big Oil, Big Auto, Big Tobacco, Big Software, Big whatever (never hear about Big Government) it's you and me paying for it. They charge more for the products they provide. Why do you think cigarettes are $5-7 a pack? It's called business costs. What costs a company incurs to bring a product to market get rolled into the cost of the item. Oil companies profit margin on gasoline at the pump is 8-9%. Anheiser Busch makes 12% on beer. When will the government go after Big Beer? Who gets to determine what constitutes "too much profit"?

3) Rebates are Caesar shutting up the plebs. I was against the Bush rebate for the same reason I'm against this. Rebates are not TAX CUTS.

4) This does not mention Obama's admitted plan to bankrupt Big Coal, an industry that provides just under half of the nation's energy nor does he mention here the curious statement that his environmental plans would "necessarily" cause energy costs to "sky-rocket." I suppose this is why we're going to need the bribe - er, rebate.

"The "Making Work Pay" tax credit will completely eliminate income taxes for 10 million Americans."

Most people are willing to pay taxes as long as it's fair. How bout a flat tax and cut back the IRS? Remove all exemptions and everyone pays 10-12%. The rich will pay more, the poor will pay less, but everyone pays. His plan pushes even more of the burden uphill. How much is enough? Top 1% paying 60% of the burden? 80%? I don't understand how this is "fairness."

"The legislation would provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US"

They have no idea what it costs to hire employees. Or, more likely, they don't care. Hiking a company's tax rate up and offering a paltry $3000 "credit" to not move jobs is ludicrous and manipulative. When a small business can't hire new people it's going to be Obama smugly condescending to us that the business owner must be a selfish bastard. Many companies have already started developing strategies, including the possibility of layoffs, to deal with the new tax burden. This "credit" is a joke and EVERY American needs to understand that increasing a company's tax burden will end jobs.

"Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators. Business incubators facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. Obama and Biden will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in disadvantaged communities throughout the country."

What the fuck does this even mean? I have never read such nonsensical horseshit (and I've read several Terry Goodkind novels). Public-private business incubators? Sounds fairly well like government controlled business to me (much like Paulson and Bush wanting to buy banks) and it all boils down to fundamental fascism.

"Obama cosponsored and is strong advocate for the Employee Free Choice Act, a bipartisan effort to assure that workers can exercise their right to organize. He will continue to fight for EFCA's passage and sign it into law."

Okay, this one is good. Get a load of this: since unionizing began it has been long honored that the vote an employee gives to unionize, for or against, was secret. With a long history of death threats and beatings and property damage and general intimidation by unions to ensure their own existence (and funding - don't forget those dues), the secret ballot was one way to protect the employee from "overzealous" union members. Obama's taking that away from every American. "Free Choice" must be good, right? Do not be fooled. This ends the secret ballot. If you don't vote to unionize the union will know and they will have your name, home address, and a bit to say about your decision. Yet again, this will end jobs in the US.

"Raise the Minimum Wage: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will raise the minimum wage, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs."

Plain and simple: raising the minimum wage ends jobs provided by small businesses and prevents businesses from hiring unskilled labor. Lots of teens will be out on the street. Let me ask, what should the minimum wage be? I think it should be $3000/hour. I like that. Think of what I could do with that.... If you think that's ludicrous, you're an idiot, but you've also just argued against the idea of a minimum wage and probably didn't even know it. All you need to do is ask "why is that ludicrous?" and the answer is, well, the answer.

Minimum wage is not intended to be a living. It's the absolute minimum. It's unskilled labor. Someone trying to raise a family on minimum wage needs something other than a "living wage."

"They will expand the FMLA to cover more purposes as well, including allowing workers to take leave for elder care needs; allowing parents up to 24 hours of leave each year to participate in their children's academic activities; and expanding FMLA to cover leave for employees to address domestic violence."

Oh my god. So businesses now have to subsidize their employees entire lives. In-fucking-sane. You know, FMLA sounds nice and is great for those who use it, but I gotta say, it kind of sucks for those who have to pick up the slack for someone who's out for an extended period and can't be replaced. And to extend that to fucking graduations and school plays is absurd.

"Middle class families will see their taxes cut – and no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase. The typical middle class family will receive well over $1,000 in tax relief under the Obama plan, and will pay tax rates that are 20% lower than they faced under President Reagan. According to the Tax Policy Center, the Obama plan provides three times as much tax relief for middle class families as the McCain plan."

Okay, leaving aside that in the final days of the campaign his 250K dropped to 150K, I want to state again that Obama will rescind the Bush cuts or at least let them expire in 2010. On that day my tax rate will more than double. I am far from rich and don't make close to 150K much less 250. Obama has lied to America about this. It's not misleading. It's not ignorance. It's a lie. And what does it matter when the jobs the wealthiest Americans were needing done by the middle class evaporate to pay all their new taxes?

For all the left talks of preserving the middle class, every time leftist fiscal policies are enacted the middle class shrinks and sometimes disappears (Cuba, USSR, China, US under FDR, LBJ and Carter.) Conservatism (true conservatism, not the spineless, fickle "neo-conservatism" of Bush, McCain and all the Northeastern Republicans who were out of jobs November 5th) works every time it's tried. Free markets work when they are truly free of government tinkering.

We are marching toward socialistic fascism and I haven't seen anything from Obama that gives me any hope. Sadly all I see is change, but not a change I wanted. I see us becoming Cuba, with our own well-spoken deified tyrant.

I'm not an enraged right-winger. I'm not a debauched racist. I'm an American who loves his country and is sad. Not because John McCain lost, because God knows, we'd be facing the same damn issues. My only hope with McCain was in my 100% certitude that McCain loves America, for all the damage he'd do. I honestly do not believe Obama does. I have heard him call America a horrible place in so many words too many times in too many places to too many people.

Now that I'm all bummed out, I'm going to go watch Bruce Campbell beat up bad guys and make me smile. (Thank God for Netflix.)

The messiah will pay my gas, rent and student loan. I won't have to worry or think for myself. It's going to be sunshine and rainbows forevermore. As long as I don't try to make too much money. Then I'll just be another rich white person (ie. a target). Welcome to Amerika.

Election '08 list of Total Douche-bags

1. Barak Hussein "Dumbo Ears" Obama - for being a socialistic authoritarian with notes of fascism while trying to pass himself off as a man of the people (much like Castro when he overthrew Batista). For letting it be known that we are not allowed to mention his associates and friends, his college years, his middle name, his big ears, his socialism, his plans to let the Bush tax cuts expire thus raising my taxes too even though I don't make 250k (no now it's 200k, whoops now it's 150k). For doing his damndest to divide us even further by race and Socio-Economic Status. Stop trying to make us hate each other you fucking prick.

2. John Sidney McCain - for being a spineless non-conservative Republican more willing to cross the aisle and sell out his own party than to look bad in the press (where's the love now John? They dropped you pretty quick, didn't they?), for co-authoring one of the biggest infringements of the 1st Amendment ever, for buying in to the man-made global warming snake-oil and planning to make us pay for it.

3. George Walker Bush - for letting Dems re-write his ideas into shitty legislation (thanks Ted, don't you have another pregnant girlfriend to drown?) and then taking the blame for it all, for showing us all his true stripes for helping to push the godawful "bailout" which is so far beyond "corporate welfare" into socialism it's not even funny (and then the kicker of the downright fascist idea of the government buying controlling interest in banks).

4. Matt Damon - for being a condescending little prick.

5. Tina Fey - y'know her Palin is dead on and funny. But the fact that she won't even make eye contact and has to get as far away from Palin as possible on set is indicative of someone who has absolutely no class. I like Fey and it really bothered me that she was so bitchy. I mean even Alec Baldwin had enough class to acknowledge Palin's presence. What a cunt.

6. Kevin Pereira (G4 host of Attack of the Show) - for calling someone who questioned a politician a douche just because the politician is one he supports. Did he call Natalie Maines a douche when she questioned Bush? This two-faced cunt-bag nonsense is getting on my fucking nerves.

7. The Obama-worshipping press - the stats are amazing on this. From Matthews' tingling pants when he hears his messiah's voice to the blatant suppress-the-Republican-vote-"might as well give up now cause it's in the bag" stories to the "well-if-you're-not-voting-Obama-you-must-be-a-degenerate-racist" stories.

8. Bill Maher - see Matt Damon.

9. Mike Huckabee - for being a self-righteous little prick and a bad talk-show host to boot.

10. All the Democrats who aren't going to vote for Obama because he's black. There's LOTS of reasons to not vote for the man, but the melanin content of his skin isn't one of them. My personal "favorites" are my sister's mother-in-law (lifelong Dem) who said "Well I guess I'll have to vote for McCain becuase we can't let the blacks get into power" and an old bastard I work with (part-time) who said "What's it going to be, chitlins in every pot?" Dumb motherfuckers.

11. Anyone voting for Obama because he's black. If you can't see how this is a perversion of King's dream that each man be judged on the content of his character and not the color of his skin, then you're as blind as those douche-bags in #10.

12. Palestinians, Germans, Iranians, Iraquis, etc. You don't get to vote in our election. Your opinions don't matter. Shut the fuck up.

13. Alan Greenspan - for blaming the free market for the crash (when it was the absence of the free market and direct governmental interference that caused it) and showing how much of a syncophantic little douche-bag he is.

14. Me - for bothering to point this out and expecting anyone to read it and/or care what I fucking think.

Edit: Another one I left out - Congressman John Murtha for calling his constituents racist rednecks. Way to represent dickwad.

Are you there Mr. Orwell, it's me, Leonard...

Please, God, tell me I'm not the only one frightened by the notion that a private citizen can have his/her life ripped open for publicly questioning a political figure. Every Obama supporter who is in hate with George Bush over his terrorist surveillance programs should be seriously looking at a man who's organization and/or supporters are investigating those who disagree with him. It's a small step from what we've seen started in editorials (calling someone "socialist" is racist) to declaring all criticism "hate speech". We've already got the template for hate crime legislation, which is basically criminalizing intent as opposed to action. How far will we have to go from here to the possibility that I could be questioned by authorities for posting this very blog, as it is quite evident that I am a rabid right-wing nut job racist myself. Slippery slope? Maybe. But I am not relishing the thought of this "Chicago thug" (as Bill Clinton called him) with the full weight of the morally ambiguous Patriot Act in his right hand.
My Own Worst Enemy...

...was intriguing, if a little (okay a bit more than a little) similar to BBC's Jekyll. It's Jekyll with spies. Reminded me why I liked Heathers (besides the monster crush I had - okay fine, HAVE - on Winona Ryder).

Jekyll, by the way, is flippin' awesome. I feel like Dwight does about BSG. "Have you watched Jekyll? No? Well, you're an idiot."

Oh and the afore-mentioned Ryder has been dethroned and replaced by Michelle Ryan (Jekyll, The Bionic Woman). God bless, that woman is absolutely beautiful.
